Cla La Land | Ringing in 2018

It is 30th December as I write this blog post. How is it even possible that we have reached the end of 2017 already? As Ferris Bueller says,

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”.

In this technology and Instagram driven era, this quote, spoken by an 1980’s youth hero, has never been truer. In the blink of an eye, we are another year down and on the rapid approach to a bright new year.

In movie land, 2017 will be remembered as a challenging one. There has been an Oscar night faux pas, major studio acquisitions and the ever growing streaming services ruffling feathers within the industry.

Then came the wave of sexual misconduct allegations released against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, which opened the door for further allegations against big names in tinsel town. These accusations in particular, have thrown shade and shame on Hollywood, in a year where a blockbuster movie such as La La Land celebrates it! I think it is important to remember the great cinematic achievements this year has brought audiences, in a year that might be considered a tainted one in the history books.

The good news is, in the UK, box office numbers are increasing and, although big budget hits such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi et al. continue to dominate, I believe strongly that movie events such as these have a positive effect on inspiring cinema goers to visit the glorious movie houses.

2017 brought us wonderful movies such as Call Me By Your Name, Mudbound and The Big Sick to name but a few of my favourites and I am looking forward to seeing what early 2018 has in store for us as Lady Bird, The Post, The Darkest Hour and The Shape of Water hits cinemas as the race for the Oscars starts to gain momentum.

On a more personal note, 2017 has been a brilliant year of travel for me and I have enjoyed documenting my itineraries on this blog. It was also the year where ‘Cla La Land’ finally touched down in ‘La La Land’, and I made memories on that trip that will last a lifetime. 2018 will bring even more adventure, including an upcoming trip to Sri Lanka and a summer in the Big Apple, so watch this space for reports on these trips!

As we say farewell to another  year, I look forward to ringing in 2018 and welcoming new challenges ahead. Happy New Year and thank you for your support on this Cla La Land journey so far.
